Jon Pannell has been selected to be a member of the Leadership Georgia class of 2012. He and his wife, Kimberly, will participate beginning in January of 2012.
Leadership Georgia is one of the nation’s oldest and most successful leadership-training programs for young business, civic and community leaders with the desire and potential to work together for a better Georgia. Its primary purpose is to identify, train, and inspire a network of emerging young leaders. Tom Gray named Corporate Law Lawyer of the Year

Jon Pannell installed in State Bar office

Jon Pannell was installed as the President-Elect of the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the State Bar of Georgia on June 3, 2010 during the State Bar annual meeting in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was sworn in by Presiding Justice George Carley of the Supreme Court of Georgia. Pannell will be sworn in as the 66th President of the YLD in June of 2012.
The YLD has been strengthened over the years through guidance by the State Bar of Georgia, its Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Supreme Court, and through dedicated service rendered by its members. In keeping with its motto of “working for the profession and the public,” the YLD has more than 25 hard-working committees that produce an array of projects and programs. Through the years, the YLD has also gained national recognition by winning several American Bar Association awards for its projects and publications.

Tom Gray and Jim Pannell were both named as 2011 Super Lawyers by Atlanta Magazine. Tom was named as a Super Lawyer in the practice areas of Bonds / Government Finance. Jim was named as a Super Lawyer in the areas of Bonds/Government Finance, General Litigation, and Business/Corporate law. Both Tom and Jim have been named to the Super Lawyers list annually since it was first published in 2004.

Grady County – Lake Project

On November 9, 2010, the South Georgia Governmental Services Authority, on behalf of Grady County, Georgia, issued $14,940,000 of revenue bonds for the purpose of designing and constructing a 960 acre recreational fishing lake within the County, which project will also include the design and construction of boat ramps, fishing piers, recreational pavilions and beaches that will encircle the lake. The bonds are secured by an intergovernmental contract between the Authority and Grady County. Gray & Pannell acted as bond counsel to the Authority on the issue.

Bulloch County – Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCBs)

On October 26, 2010, Gray & Pannell acted as bond counsel to the Bulloch County School District on issuing $13,705,000 of Qualified School Construction Bonds (QSCBs). The bonds are the second series of bonds to be issued by the School District as authorized by a referendum of the voters of Bulloch County on March 17, 2009. The School District elected to designate the bonds as Direct Pay Tax Credit Bonds pursuant to Section 6431 of the Internal Revenue Code. This entitles the School District to subsidy payments equal to the lesser of the amount of interest payable on the bonds or the amount of interest which would have been payable on the bonds if the interest were determined under the Qualified Tax Credit Bond Rate as established by the U.S. Treasury. At the time of the pricing of the bonds, the yield on the bonds was less than the Qualified Tax Credit Bond Rate; therefore, the School District expects to receive subsidy payments that will fully cover all interest payable on the bonds.
